The blackberries and black raspberries are the only types of fruit which seems to be keeping with their normal ripening schedule. Everything else is a bit early, and all at once.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3997\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/berries-jul7th.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3997\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3997\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3997\" src=\"https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/berries-jul7th.jpg\" alt=\"Strawberries, raspberries, and red currants.\" width=\"600\" height=\"397\" srcset=\"https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/berries-jul7th.jpg 600w, https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/berries-jul7th-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3997\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Strawberries, raspberries, and red currants.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>This is the third picking of strawberries and raspberries, with lots more of each type still yet to get ripe.\u00a0 The red currants are just now ready for picking, and this bowl is just from one plant (we have six of them).\u00a0 This is all the red currants I got last year, so we&#8217;re delighted!\u00a0 I think I&#8217;ll make red currant jelly instead of red currant jam this time around.\u00a0 For now I&#8217;ll be freezing these fruits and deal with them later.<\/p>\n<p>The pie cherry tree is so heavy with fruit the branches are bending over.\u00a0 In another day or two at most, those will need to be picked, pitted, and then frozen.\u00a0 Yikes.\u00a0 Last year we harvested 30 pounds of pie cherries.\u00a0 This year looks like it will be easily way more than that, but I don&#8217;t want to hazard a guess.\u00a0 It&#8217;s too scary.<\/p>\n<p>The gooseberries are ready to be picked, too.\u00a0 Combat berry picking, here we come \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Josta berries are also ready to be picked.\u00a0 At least those don&#8217;t have thorns and won&#8217;t fight back.\u00a0 This year we will have many pounds of those to deal with.\u00a0 Pretty easy, I&#8217;ll just freeze them as we pick them.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/finish-color.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3998\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3998\" src=\"https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/finish-color.jpg\" alt=\"finish-color\" width=\"600\" height=\"402\" srcset=\"https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/finish-color.jpg 600w, https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/finish-color-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The finish color is finally being applied to the exterior of the house, starting with the upstairs.\u00a0 The trim around the windows and eaves upstairs is still pink, but it&#8217;s better than it all being pink.\u00a0 Maybe by the end of next week this will be done.\u00a0 Woo hoo!<\/p>\n<p>I have apricots to make apricot butter, and need to go pick up two gallons of wild blueberries which are waiting for us at our favorite fruit stand.\u00a0 That made the most wonderful jam.<\/p>\n<p>I may have more fruit than I know what to do with.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Almost all the fruit seems to have decided to get ripe at once.
