{"id":3608,"date":"2014-05-26T00:31:54","date_gmt":"2014-05-26T00:31:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/redmeadow.com\/?p=3608"},"modified":"2014-05-26T00:37:21","modified_gmt":"2014-05-26T00:37:21","slug":"greenhouse-structure-is-completed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/?p=3608","title":{"rendered":"Greenhouse &#8211; structure is completed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday we got the rafters cut and in place.\u00a0 That was a major accomplishment, and our neighbor came over to help us accomplish it.\u00a0\u00a0 I picked rhubarb in the garden and made a pie while Dan and Gary were putting up the rafters.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3620\" style=\"width: 660px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/may25-greenhouse1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3620\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3620\" title=\"may25-greenhouse1\" src=\"https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/may25-greenhouse1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"435\" srcset=\"https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/may25-greenhouse1.jpg 650w, https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/may25-greenhouse1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3620\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">This morning Dan was checking all the rafters to make sure no nails were sticking up to catch the plastic covering, and to see if anything needed sanding, for the same reason.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>While he was doing that, I got out a shovel, rake, and wheelbarrow and started to level the edges of the interior, to bring the dirt level up to the top of the foundation boards.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3621\" style=\"width: 660px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/may25-greenhouse2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3621\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3621\" title=\"may25-greenhouse2\" src=\"https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/may25-greenhouse2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"435\" srcset=\"https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/may25-greenhouse2.jpg 650w, https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/may25-greenhouse2-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3621\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Then Dan started to put in all the bracing on the rafters.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Under the ridge board is a board that ties the rafters together. And then between each rafter is another board so that the span of plastic between the ridge board and to top of the wall will no longer be 12 feet, but split about in half.\u00a0 This should keep the plastic from sagging with the snow in the winter.<\/p>\n<p>Hurray!\u00a0 The building is completed.\u00a0 We still need to install hurricane clips on the rafter boards, attaching them to\u00a0 exterior walls, but that&#8217;s the last thing to be done.\u00a0 And then it&#8217;s time to put the plastic covering over the structure.<\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow the weather is supposed to be pretty awful, so it won&#8217;t be tomorrow.\u00a0 Which is a good thing.\u00a0 We are both worn out.\u00a0 But it&#8217;s done \ud83d\ude42\u00a0 Once the plastic is in place, we&#8217;ll build the raised beds and start filling them with dirt, and get everybody planted.<\/p>\n<p>The melon plants are growing leaps and bounds.\u00a0 The squash seeds are germinating, and so are all the herb seeds I planted.\u00a0 The squash plants go into the garden, not the greenhouse, and at the same time we transplant those, we&#8217;ll plant the beans, and some more lettuce varieties, and our garden will be all planted for the growing season.\u00a0 Exciting to watch everything grow.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday we got the rafters cut and in place.\u00a0 That was a major accomplishment, and our neighbor came over to help us accomplish it.\u00a0\u00a0 I picked rhubarb in the garden and made a pie while Dan and Gary were putting up the rafters.
