I decided to document their graceful transition.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2537\" style=\"width: 660px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/aspens-oct1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2537\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2537\" title=\"aspens-oct1\" src=\"https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/aspens-oct1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"1002\" srcset=\"https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/aspens-oct1.jpg 650w, https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/aspens-oct1-194x300.jpg 194w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2537\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Silvery gray and white bark, leaves still the deep green of late summer, poised and waiting for fall rains.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The understory bushes are starting to turn colors, but the aspens are still waiting.\u00a0 Not a breath of wind stirs their leaves today, it is all quiet in the grove.\u00a0 Aspen groves can live for thousands of years, watching the change of the seasons and the activities of their inhabitants with patience and mild interest.<\/p>\n<p>Last night a Great Gray Owl came calling, talking in the grove about the flavors of mice.\u00a0 Chickadees and Kinglets flit around the leaves high in the canopy.\u00a0 Snowshoe Hares scamper among the roots.\u00a0 Deer and bear still forage for ripening fruits and berries clinging to bushes which share the grove with the Aspens.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2538\" style=\"width: 660px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/fall-hillside.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2538\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2538\" title=\"fall-hillside\" src=\"https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/fall-hillside.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"435\" srcset=\"https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/fall-hillside.jpg 650w, https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/fall-hillside-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2538\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Across the valley on the hillside, the grass is dry and waiting for winds to scatter their seeds.<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_2539\" style=\"width: 749px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/grass-seeds.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2539\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2539\" title=\"grass-seeds\" src=\"https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/grass-seeds.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"739\" height=\"930\" srcset=\"https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/grass-seeds.jpg 739w, https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/grass-seeds-238x300.jpg 238w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 739px) 100vw, 739px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2539\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A bountiful harvest for Goldfinches awaits their arrival.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Today our project is to replace a window in the basement.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll see if we actually feel like doing that today or tomorrow.\u00a0 Feeling lazy at the moment, but no guarantees we&#8217;d feel less lazy tomorrow, and this afternoon (so far), it isn&#8217;t raining.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Aspens reflect the change of seasons from summer, to fall, to winter, each year in October.
