{"id":2086,"date":"2010-12-04T13:42:05","date_gmt":"2010-12-04T21:42:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mtnmacaw.wordpress.com\/?p=2086"},"modified":"2010-12-04T13:42:05","modified_gmt":"2010-12-04T21:42:05","slug":"orange-rolls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/?p=2086","title":{"rendered":"Orange Rolls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I found a recipe for Cinnamon Rolls on the internet and they were good, so now I&#8217;m playing with the recipe.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2092\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mtnmacaw.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/12\/orangerolls.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2092\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2092\" title=\"orangerolls\" src=\"http:\/\/mtnmacaw.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/12\/orangerolls.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"335\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2092\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">These were worth the mess.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Grease a 9 inch glass pie pan and set it aside; pre-heat oven to 375F.<\/p>\n<p>Step one:\u00a0\u00a0 Wash and dry an organic Orange, and then finely grate the orange peel, collecting approximately 1 Tablespoon of peel in a bowl &#8211; set aside<\/p>\n<p>Step two:\u00a0 Cream together 2 Tablespoons margarine or butter with 1\/4 cup white sugar, and then add the grated orange peel<\/p>\n<p>Step three:\u00a0 Heat 2\/3 cup of almond milk to 110F &#8211; add to it 1\/4 cup of canola oil, 1 teaspoon vanilla, and 1 large egg.\u00a0 Beat to combine.<\/p>\n<p>Step four:\u00a0 Add the milk mixture to the butter\/sugar\/orange peel mixture and whisk thoroughly.\u00a0 Add 1 Tablespoon dry yeast and whisk again<\/p>\n<p>Step five:\u00a0 Combine 1\/2 cup potato starch, 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons corn starch, 2-1\/2 teaspoons xantham gum, 2 teaspoons baking powder, 1\/2 teaspoon salt, 1\/4 teaspoon baking soda.\u00a0 Stir to combine.<\/p>\n<p>Step six:\u00a0 Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and whisk to combine as much as possible, and then use a large heavy spatula to make sure everything is mixed well.\u00a0 The dough will be very soft.<\/p>\n<p>Step seven:\u00a0 Cover a breadboard with plastic wrap; sprinkle with some white sugar.\u00a0 Place the ball of dough in the middle of the board, and sprinkle with a teaspoon of corn starch.\u00a0 Cover with more plastic wrap and then roll it out with a rolling pin to about 12 inches square.<\/p>\n<p>Step eight:\u00a0 Mix 1\/2 cup brown sugar with 1 teaspoon (scant) cinnamon.\u00a0 Sprinkle this evenly on the flat dough, leaving 1\/2 inch margin clear on the edge of the dough.\u00a0 Sprinkle raisins around.<\/p>\n<p>Step nine:\u00a0 Using the edge of the plastic wrap closest to you, start rolling the dough up until it is in a tube.<\/p>\n<p>Step ten:\u00a0 Cut the tube in half and then cut each half into four even slices.\u00a0 They will be around an inch wide, give or take a bit.\u00a0 Place the slices into the prepared pie pan.<\/p>\n<p>Step eleven (optional step):\u00a0 Put the pie pan in the oven.\u00a0 Drop the contents of the pan into the bottom of the oven.\u00a0 Curse a little.\u00a0 Turn off the oven and the smoke alarm.\u00a0 Remove the mess from the bottom of the oven as much as possible given the fact it&#8217;s very hot.\u00a0 Open the windows in the kitchen.\u00a0 Console the cat who is sure the world just ended.\u00a0 Clean the oven, and the rest of the dishes.\u00a0 Repeat steps one through ten, and skip the whole dropping into the oven.<\/p>\n<p>Make some icing while the rolls are baking for 23 minutes:<\/p>\n<p>Combined 1 Tablespoon soft margarine or butter with 3\/4 cup of powdered sugar and fresh orange juice from the orange you just used to make orange zest.\u00a0 Drizzle over the rolls when they emerge from the oven.<\/p>\n<p>The first time I tried this experiment with the original recipe, I didn&#8217;t have any fresh oranges, so I used orange extract.\u00a0 That was awful!!!!!\u00a0 Don&#8217;t do that.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I found a recipe for Cinnamon Rolls on the internet and they were good, so now I&#8217;m playing with the recipe.
