First time we&#039;ve noticed this flower blooming here.<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_1618\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mtnmacaw.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/bitterroot2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1618\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1618\" title=\"bitterroot2\" src=\"http:\/\/mtnmacaw.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/bitterroot2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"423\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1618\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">They have a pretty wide color variation, from really dark pink to a very pale pastel pink.<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_1619\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mtnmacaw.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/bitterroot-closed.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1619\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1619\" title=\"bitterroot-closed\" src=\"http:\/\/mtnmacaw.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/bitterroot-closed.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"388\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1619\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Still tightly furled, this Bitterroot is a deep rose color.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>This plant was first collected on the Lewis &amp; Clark expedition, and they tried to eat it.\u00a0 I think they tried to eat everything they came across, actually.\u00a0 They said it was too bitter, and called it Bitterroot.\u00a0 When the dried specimen was returned to the east coast, it looked like it still had life, and they planted it.\u00a0 Sure enough, it grew.\u00a0 And so the scientific name is <em>Lewisia Rediviva<\/em>, and <em>rediviva<\/em> means &#8220;restored to life.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1620\" style=\"width: 475px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mtnmacaw.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/death-camas.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1620\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1620\" title=\"death-camas\" src=\"http:\/\/mtnmacaw.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/death-camas.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"465\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1620\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Meadow Death Camas, a highly poisonous plant whose roots were historically mashed and used to coat the tips of arrows.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Two that I&#8217;ve taken pictures of before but that I always love to see each spring are the Larkspur and wild hyacinth.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1621\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mtnmacaw.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/larkspur-2010.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1621\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1621\" title=\"larkspur-2010\" src=\"http:\/\/mtnmacaw.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/larkspur-2010.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"536\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1621\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Upland Larkspur are some of the earliest blooming flowers.  I love the deep blue color.<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_1622\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mtnmacaw.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/crocus-2010.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1622\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1622\" title=\"crocus-2010\" src=\"http:\/\/mtnmacaw.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/crocus-2010.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1622\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">I can never remember what this one is called and then I figure it out, and forget again until next year.  It reminds me of Chinese paper lanterns.
