At the top of the railing you can get a hint of the pattern lurking beneath the crinkles.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I covered the upstairs guest bed with some rigid foam boards and covered them with an old flannel sheet.\u00a0 The shawl had been soaking for several hours in a tub of cold water and Eculan wool wash.\u00a0 This yarn is a blend of 70% alpaca and 30% silk, so it is very soft and has a beautiful shine.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1232\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mtnmacaw.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/11\/blocklace-blocking1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1232\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1232\" title=\"blocklace-blocking1\" src=\"http:\/\/mtnmacaw.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/11\/blocklace-blocking1.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" srcset=\"https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/blocklace-blocking1.jpg 500w, https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/blocklace-blocking1-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1232\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A couple of hours later, the rigid blocking wires are threaded through the edges and the shawl is stretched out tight, and pinned to within an inch of its life.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Dan helped me with a tape measure to make sure this shawl is as close to square as possible, and the edges were pinned straight.\u00a0 Without his help I&#8217;d have taken more than twice as long.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1234\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mtnmacaw.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/11\/blocklace-blocking21.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1234\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1234\" title=\"blocklace-blocking2\" src=\"http:\/\/mtnmacaw.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/11\/blocklace-blocking21.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" srcset=\"https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/blocklace-blocking21.jpg 500w, https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/blocklace-blocking21-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1234\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A slightly different angle showing how the color changes with light.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The view from the upstairs window shows how white things are getting outside now that winter seems to have arrived.\u00a0 We have about an inch of snow on the ground now, and it may stay there for a while.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1235\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mtnmacaw.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/11\/blocklace-detail.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1235\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1235\" title=\"blocklace-detail\" src=\"http:\/\/mtnmacaw.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/11\/blocklace-detail.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"247\" srcset=\"https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/blocklace-detail.jpg 500w, https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/blocklace-detail-300x247.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1235\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The pattern is very geometric so it was important to try to get it square and the lines even.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>What is really neat to me is how the variegated colors of this yarn look like waves in the ocean.\u00a0 So, now I wait until the shawl is completely dry before unpinning it.\u00a0 It is safe from Mishkin, who seems to really like this yarn.\u00a0 I have to watch him like a hawk or he starts trying to eat it.\u00a0\u00a0 Bad kitty!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1236\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mtnmacaw.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/11\/cran-orange-walnut-bread.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1236\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1236\" title=\"cran-orange-walnut-bread\" src=\"http:\/\/mtnmacaw.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/11\/cran-orange-walnut-bread.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"264\" srcset=\"https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/cran-orange-walnut-bread.jpg 500w, https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/cran-orange-walnut-bread-300x264.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1236\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Another successful gluten free bread -
