Cast... get it?  Fishing.... <\/p><\/div>\n<p>I suppose if you have to explain a pun, you shouldn&#8217;t have made it in the first place.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1169\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1169\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1169\" title=\"skiresort\" src=\"http:\/\/mtnmacaw.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/11\/skiresort.jpg\" alt=\"skiresort\" width=\"460\" height=\"308\" srcset=\"https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/skiresort.jpg 500w, https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/skiresort-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 460px) 100vw, 460px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1169\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Snow at the lower elevations has all melted.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>It will be an amazing day weather-wise up here on the mountain, with temperatures above freezing, no wind to speak of, and completely clear skies.<\/p>\n<p>Our bird feeders are up and active now.\u00a0 We are getting our normal variety of winter birds showing up, first being the Chickadees who found the feeders within 24 hours, and they spread the word to all and sundry.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1171\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1171\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1171\" title=\"flicker\" src=\"http:\/\/mtnmacaw.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/11\/flicker.jpg\" alt=\"flicker\" width=\"460\" height=\"308\" srcset=\"https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/flicker.jpg 500w, https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/flicker-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 460px) 100vw, 460px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1171\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A Flicker in a small Ponderosa Pine, near one of the feeders.  They spend a lot of time yelling and thwacking into the sides of trees.  A very exhuberant species, indeed.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>We still have hopes that someday the Pileated Woodpeckers will discover our suet feeder.\u00a0\u00a0 So far, they haven&#8217;t managed it.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1173\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1173\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1173\" title=\"feeder\" src=\"http:\/\/mtnmacaw.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/11\/feeder.jpg\" alt=\"feeder\" width=\"460\" height=\"308\" srcset=\"https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/feeder.jpg 500w, https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/feeder-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 460px) 100vw, 460px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1173\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Right before I snapped this picture of a Stellar&#39;s Jay, he was pretending to be a Red-tailed Hawk.  I don&#39;t think anybody was fooled, but the call was an excellent imitation.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Last night we had a Ruffed Grouse strolling across the front lawn.\u00a0 And the Snowshoe Hares are about half white now.\u00a0 One was streaking around the yard at full speed, practicing avoidance maneuvers from Goshawks which will be actively hunting soon on the mountain.\u00a0 We also had a Sharp-shinned Hawk making strafing runs through the yard.\u00a0 Opal wasn&#8217;t in the least bit happy about that bird, and neither were the Chickadees or Juncos.\u00a0 Terry didn&#8217;t seem to care, one way or the other, and Mish just yawned.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some people say the fishing season is over for the year.\u00a0 They don&#8217;t know about this future Olympic event.\u00a0 There are several ingredients.\u00a0 First you need a little pole with some brightly colored stretchy material attached securely to it, and a cat.
