{"id":1025,"date":"2009-09-05T15:22:25","date_gmt":"2009-09-05T23:22:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mtnmacaw.wordpress.com\/?p=1025"},"modified":"2009-09-05T15:22:25","modified_gmt":"2009-09-05T23:22:25","slug":"wood-elves-and-nightime-visitors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/?p=1025","title":{"rendered":"Wood Elves and Nightime Visitors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Wood Elves are a tricksey species that make an annual appearance in the fall, usually before the Autumnal Equinox when they are widely observed dancing in the moonlight.\u00a0 They provide things.\u00a0 In our case they provide us with a lot of work to be done.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1026\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1026\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1026\" title=\"woodelves\" src=\"http:\/\/mtnmacaw.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/09\/woodelves.jpg\" alt=\"Wood elf spoor.  \" width=\"460\" height=\"308\" srcset=\"https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/woodelves.jpg 500w, https:\/\/redmeadow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/woodelves-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 460px) 100vw, 460px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1026\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wood elf spoor.  <\/p><\/div>\n<p>It will take several sessions to put this large pile of winter firewood away under cover.\u00a0 We have already put away roughly half, stacked neatly in the woodshed overhang adjacent to the garage.\u00a0 The wood elves will deliver two more loads of &#8216;work&#8217; of a similar size before they are done for the season, the next delivery slated for next weekend.\u00a0 There is an old saying that heating your house with wood warms you at least twice:\u00a0 Once when preparing it for burning, and then again in the stoves.\u00a0 I must say I&#8217;m really looking forward to having fires on a regular basis in the cookstove again.\u00a0 Which reminds me, we need to clean that stove thoroughly and get some stove cement for the firebox.<\/p>\n<p>Autumn is definitely beginning.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1027\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1027\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1027\" title=\"ninebark\" src=\"http:\/\/mtnmacaw.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/09\/ninebark.jpg\" alt=\"Under the canopy of pine trees, underbrush is turning to their fall colors. They also turn color as fall progresses.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Last night at roughly 1 AM Dan heard some noises from the plum tree next to our bedroom.\u00a0 Lately the tree has been the site of nightly deer parties but this sounded different.\u00a0 So he turned on the outside light, and sure enough, it was a different plum predator in action.\u00a0 A two hundred pound black bear was caught in the act of attempting to climb the plum tree, having cleaned up the fallen fruit on the ground.\u00a0 The bear was quite startled to be suddenly illuminated and when Dan opened the window to say &#8220;shoo&#8221; it was just too much to, dare I say it, bear&#8230;\u00a0 yes I did.\u00a0 The bear scampered off through the brush at high speed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wood Elves are a tricksey species that make an annual appearance in the fall, usually before the Autumnal Equinox when they are widely observed dancing in the moonlight.\u00a0 They provide things.\u00a0 In our case they provide us with a lot of work to be done.
